2 Turn Track- 5.06.25

Image
Glen Allen Church of Christ Front field 71°, Partly Cloudy, Wind SW7 w/ gusts 10-15 mph, 44% humidity Laid 7:04-7:15 pm Ran 7:39 pm Otter struggled the only other time he has tracked in this field (previous post 4.17.25- think it was aged too long), so I wanted this to be relatively easy so didn't age it much.  And we were losing daylight.   I realized after we finished that the recording had stopped before the tracked ended.  Conveniently it ended after he found the article on the 3rd leg but didn't get the rest of that leg and the end article. No food for the start article and didn't rev him up at the start.  Very pleased that he was able to look & dismiss the geese at the start, because he definitely wanted to stalk/chase them afterwards. Rolled 7 times in the video I think?  At the flag, I'm guessing that roll was loss of scent at the end of the hangman's turn.  He also rolled at the 2nd open angle turn (4:38) but popped back up quickly and wen...

Glen Allen Church of Christ Back field Laid 5:25 pm Ran 6:08 pm This field has better cover than the front field where he struggled the previous track. He started well.  On the 2nd leg at about 4:03 he's moving along but head is up.  I knew he was basically on the track (just to the left of it for a few feet) but, had I not known that, I would have questioned if he was tracking or just walking.  He definitely was panting more on this track. 6:15- Reverse sneezing started.  Waited a minute or so to see if he could work through it.  Took a couple steps toward him and seemed to be getting over it.  Took a few more steps and then it started again so I offered some water. ~13:00- Not sure what was distracting him so much on this leg in general, but at 13:00 he definitely got distracted.  Thankfully he does tend to go back to work. https://youtu.be/lAIhYQ7sZz4

Article Track- 4.17.25

Glen Allen Church of Christ front field Laid - I failed to write down the time but I believe it was approx 5:45 pm Run- 7:47 pm-  I had intended to run this at 90 min but got delayed going back to it My original plan for this article track had to be altered because there was mowing being done.  Not wanting to interfere at all, and not wanting to leave articles down on an unmown area, the area I was able to use was much smaller than I had planned for. No map because I accidentally left my clipboard at home and had no paper in my car.  I made notes in my phone, although interpreting those notes later was an issue. I altered the spacing on the Article Track example on the RDOC Tracking page due to the limited space. Start 15 yds FD 15 yds Article 8 yds FD 11 yds Article 8 yds FD 11 yds Article 8 yds FD 11 yds Article End (I think that's right) He struggled with this one.  First time on this section of the property.  Guessing just too much age on the track. https://...

Parking Lot Track- McDonald's West Park- 4.12.25

McDonald's West Park 8:56 pm 50°F,  66% humidity, Strong breeze I didn't have time to track until very late so we did a parking lot track tonight. After Otter struggled so, so much on the start tracks on Thursday, I could hear Judi in my head saying to make this track very short and easy. Scuff 5, Walk 10 for about 60 yards Scuffed between the flag poles with a food drop just after them.   Two additional food drops. Track was run immediately. https://youtu.be/nH9F8hBZ2a4 No map made.

Start Tracks- 4.10.25

Meadow Farm Horse Field 66°F, humidity 38%, dew point 39, wind S12 4 Start Tracks These tracks were laid with the plan to age them more than an hour, so I added scuffing in the first 3 tracks and just walked the last track.   The tracks ended up being aged more than I planned so I'm sure that played a part in his struggling. Article Track- 3.31.25

Echo Lake Elementary School We were rushing to get this track in and run before the storm rolled in and darkness took over.  We just made it through it and then the rain poured! Otter's article indication had diminished on the backchaining tracks a few days ago, so Judi had recommended doing an article track next to help reinforce his article indication.  He seems to like and be really into playing with the article initially but the interest in playing with it quickly fades.  He'd rather get the food and keep going I think! Food was placed beside the bush and the light post to help keep him focused on the track and not on marking things.  Might have worked just as well to scuff through there and drop one piece of food on the other side instead. He rolled on the turn but did pop up as soon as I got in closer to him.  Then kind of bolted to my right a bit before actually looking for and finding the track to the left. At 2:20 he starts crunching on something- turne...
